The Roanoke College men’s lacrosse team fell behind early but rallied for an 18-14 win over Hampden-Sydney in a big ODAC game at Kerr Stadium last Saturday.

Junior Clayton Bewick scored a career-high five times and fifth-year Wyatt Whitlow, a Salem High grad, joined the 300-point club in the win. Whitlow scored three goals to become just the second Maroon in program history to reach 300 points, trailing only teammate Luke Kammerman (389). Whitlow has an even 300 points, including 53 this season.

The Tigers started the game strong, opening a 4-1 lead and ending the first period ahead 6-2. Roanoke netted six of the next seven goals to tie the game at seven and the teams ended the first half tied at 8-8.

The Maroons took control with the first five goals of the third period, including three from Whitlow. The Tigers closed to 14-10 entering the fourth quarter but each team scored four in the fourth period as the Maroons held on for the win.

Freshman Chris Schwartz got the start between the pipes and made nine saves to earn the win.

With the victory the Maroons improved to 10-4 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. They were at Bridgewater Wednesday followed by a home game against Virginia Wesleyan at Salem’s Kerr Stadium this Saturday. Faceoff time is 2:30 pm.
