
The Andrew Lewis Middle School eighth grade football team won a storm-shortened game to open the season last week. at Salem Stadium. Lewis was leading 16-6 over Cave Spring Middle School when the game was halted by a thunderstorm in the third quarter, and that was deemed to be the final score.
The Wolverines were led on offense by the running of Zyere Richardson, who scored two touchdowns. Those runs were made possible by the offensive line of Elijah Regan, Tyler Coe, Grant Martin, Maddox Saunders, Bruce Gibson, Lumen Campbell and Malaki Gardner. Quarterback Pearce Oliver completed several passes to Carter Webb, which helped spark the scoring drives.
On defense, the Wolverines were led by the linebacker play of Dominique Belcher.
The Lewis seventh grade team opened with a 40-0 win over Eastern Montgomery. The seventh grade team will be playing Glenvar Middle School today at 5 pm at Glenvar’s Highlander Stadium.
The Lewis eighth grade team will also be back in action today, Thursday, to host Patrick Henry at Salem Stadium at 5 pm.
