The Roanoke College women were looking to snap a five game losing streak on Wednesday as they traveled across town to take on Hollins University.

The Maroons fell to 7-16 last Saturday when they dropped a 64-52 decision at Shenandoah University in Winchester. The Maroons were 4-10 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference after the loss.

RC was down 10-4 early in the first quarter but a Kayla Kinsler jumper in the closing seconds made it a 15-12 deficit for the Maroons after the first 10 minutes. SU held RC to just four points in the second period and used a 15-0 run to vault head 32-16 at the intermission.

With the score 34-21 SU, Roanoke rallied using a 9-0 run, making it a four-point game on a Laura McManimen jumper with just over five minutes to go in the third quarter. A Sarah Donley three-pointer on SU’s ensuing possession pushed the Hornet lead back to seven and Shenandoah would lead 43-35 heading into the final quarter.

RC cut the lead to 44-39 early in the fourth but a 9-1 run by SU put the game out of reach. Madeline Suhr led RC with 17 points, while Kristina Harrel had nine points. McManimen finished with five assists.

After Wednesday’s game at Hollins the Maroons will host Randolph Macon in the Cregger Center on Saturday in their regular season finale.
