A local church youth choir brought music and patriotism to the steps of Salem City Hall on Saturday, performing a special concert honoring Armed Forces Day and the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The CommUNITY Church Youth Praise Team Choir performed “Stars, Stripes, and Salvation” during a community gathering that also recognized the National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving and looked ahead to Independence Day on July 4, when the United States marks its semiquincentennial.
The choir, directed by Amanda Moses and coordinated by Beth Dalton, performed four songs for an audience of community members, families and visitors.
Pastoral intern Tyler Woody led the service and delivered a message honoring the nation’s military service members and what he described as America’s enduring spiritual heritage.
“The event highlighted the strong connection between faith, community service and patriotism within the Salem community,” organizers said, while also showcasing the musical talents of the church’s youth ministry.
