35th Annual Roanoke Valley Mopar Car Show: The free event will be at the Salem Civic Center Saturday, Sept. 3. Gates open at 8 a.m. Registration will be open until 1 p.m. Registration prices include $25 for the car show, $25 for the car corral and $25 for the swap meet. Judging will begin at 10 a.m. by outside judges. Over 100 awards will be given. Proceeds will benefit St. Judes and other local charities. Salem Museum Members’ Summer Picnic: Please join us for our Members’ Picnic on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 6 to 8 pm. We will have seating in our Community Room and outdoors on our lovely Green Roof. Our event will feature BBQ, beer and wine, with catering by Lost Mountain Breads, and music by Jim Robinson on the Hammered Dulcimer. Cost is $22 per person, payable by mail, or dropped off at the Museum, or call us with your credit card. Please RSVP by September 1 by calling 540-389-6760, or emailing frances@salemmuseum.org. LeadHERship Series – “Innovative Workplace Communication: Impacts of Digitalization”: The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a luncheon Sept. 13 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Virginia Western Community College Natural Science Center in partnership with Virginia Western College of Career and Corporate Training featuring Anne Millehan from Millehan Coaching and Consulting. The topic will be “Innovative Workplace Communication: Impacts of Digitization.” It is part of a 10-month Women’s LeadHERship Series for women across all industries. Series attendees only. Gary Allan’s Ruthless Tour: The country music artist will be at the Salem Civic Center Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. His first new album in eight years was released last year. Tickets range in price from $37.50 to $97.50. They can be purchased at the Salem Civic Center Box Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or online at www.ticketmaster.com. 

Young Professional Group: The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce is holding a meeting Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Mac and Bob’s Restaurant in the sunroom on the lower level. Chamber member Jane Johnson, R.M. Johnson & Sons Jewelers, will be the speaker. More information can be found at: https://s-rcchamber.org/

SWVA’s Bigfoot & Friends…A Cryptid Celebration: The event will be at the Salem Civic Center Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. General admission is $10. Children under the age of 12 get in for free. Guest speakers will include experienced cryptozoology research experts and paranormal investigators, including Lyle Blackburn, Daniel Benoit, Lija Fisher, Zach Bales and Katy Elizabeth. Vendors will be on-site. There will also be a costume contest. Tickets can be found at www.ticketmaster.com.


Star-B-Q: The event featuring Easton Corbin will be Sept. 28 from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Salem Farmers Market. Special guest Pat Pollifrone will be in attendance. Proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Salem. Tickets are $8 in advance or $12 the day of. Children under 10 get in for free. Tickets can be purchased at city parks and rec at 620 Florida Street.

Business After Hours: The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce will hold an after hours event Sept. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Twin Creeks Brewing Company in Salem. More information can be found at: https://s-rcchamber.org/

Public meetings: Salem City Council will meet Sept. 12 and 26 at 6:30 p.m. The Salem Planning Commission will meet Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. The Salem School Board will meet Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
