What brings you joy? Whether it’s cozying up with a new story, learning a new skill, gathering with community or something else, you can find your joy at the Salem Public Library.

At a moment in America when the cost of almost everything is rising, people are finding themselves making hard choices on how to spend their money. Groceries cost more. A night out costs more. Even the basics feel less within reach. The library is one place in our community that remains free and open to everyone. Are you taking advantage of all that your local library has to offer?

National Library Week, April 19–25, 2026, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books, online databases for learning new skills, and digital resources, tech assistance and creative programming for all ages, libraries are essential to thriving communities.

Whatever brings you joy, the library has something for everyone.

At Salem Public Library, we invite everyone to join the celebration now and throughout the year. Whether you’re a longtime patron, a new neighbor, or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer. Our library provides programs and services for all ages completely free of charge ensuring that everyone has access to resources that educate, inspire, and connect.

First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.

Come by the Salem Library this week and pick up giveaways from our product merch table!

Celebrate National Library Week at the Salem Public with a free viewing of The Music Man on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the meeting room! All are welcome! Sparks fly between Professor Harold Hill and Marian the Librarian in this 1962 film adaptation based on the Broadway musical!

Follow the Salem Public Library on Facebook to see how library staff celebrate! Or visit us in the library. See picture for Library Spirit Week; Day one: Library staff dressed in the colors of the rainbow.
