The three-time defending Glenvar boys’ soccer team remained undefeated with three wins in the past week. The Highlanders are now 5-0-1 after six games and 4-0 in the Three Rivers District. They host Patrick County tonight.

Last Wednesday Glenvar defeated Franklin County at Highlander Stadium, 5-0. Glenvar led 2-0 at the half on goals by Parker Doolan and Adam Saunders. In the second half Ryder Francisco had two goals and Tyler Curfiss added another. Jackson Jones had three assists and Doolan had two while Tyler Shannon and Drew Butler combined for the shutout in the net. Glenvar outshot the Eagles 30-1.

A night later the Highlanders traveled to Buchanan to take on James River and eased to an 8-0. Henry Schruth and Levi King had two goals each and also scoring were Curfiss, Jacob Saunders, Adam Saunders and Doolan. Evan Harris had three assists and Curfiss had two. Shannon was in the goal for the shutout.

On Monday of this week the Highlanders hosted Radford and took a 7-1 win against a team that is usually their toughest district rival. Adam Saunders scored the first two goals but Radford answered to cut the lead to 2-1. From there is was all Glenvar as Schruth and Adam Saunders scored for a 4-1 halftime lead. King had two goals in the second half and Issac Sevilla added one as Glenvar outshot the Bobcats 35-6 for the game.

“The team is moving in the right direction,” said coach Josh Jones. “We have picked up some solid victories lately but must continue to clean up some things as we move forward. The season is a long one, we must continue to attack it one day at a time.”
