Virginia Writes: Create, Share, Discover
The Library of Virginia’s Virginia Writes program provides the tools for Virginia writers to create, format and share (publish) their work, and makes them available for readers to discover in an e-book format. Get access to Virginia Writes on your local library webpage (www.salemlibrary.info) under the “Research” link.
Create: The creation process using Pressbooks Public gives Virginia authors the ability to design their own books, poetry, novels, and any other written content in professional quality, digital and print-ready files totally free of charge. No special software is needed.
Share: Finished books can be submitted to the Indie Author Project (IAP) where selected titles are added to the Indie Virginia digital collection for patrons of participating libraries across the commonwealth to read on the e-book platform, BiblioBoard. If your book is selected by IAP’s curation partners, it will also be available alongside other great indie reads in participating libraries across the U.S. and Canada. Throughout the whole process, ownership is retained by the author.
Discover: The content on BiblioBoard is an additional source for e-books for readers. Download the BiblioBoard App on your reading device. There is also a link to BiblioBoard on the library catalog under “eContent.” With BiblioBoard, titles are immediately available and there is no download limit.
