Recognized for his academic and musical achievements, Glenvar High School graduate Nicholas Fraticelli recently received congratulations from University of South Carolina officials and music educators. Pictured are Dr. Sheldon Johnson, saxophone professor at Radford University, Nicholas Fraticelli and Jennifer Jablonski, assistant dean of the University of South Carolina School of Music. Not pictured is Kim Davidson, director of the Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir. Fraticelli was awarded the Academic Scholar Superlative Award to participate in the University of South Carolina Honors College, recognized as the nation’s top-ranked public honors college, along with a music scholarship. His combined scholarship package is valued at more than $115,000 over four years. Jablonski traveled to Salem to personally recognize Fraticelli’s accomplishments. In November 2025, he was one of approximately 120 Virginia seniors selected for the Virginia Honor Choir from more than 700 students who auditioned statewide. He also participated in District Choir and the VMEA All-Virginia Chorus in both 2025 and 2026. A 10-year member of the Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir, Fraticelli studied piano under Davidson for a decade. As a saxophonist, he represented Glenvar High School in the VMEA District Band for Virginia’s 6th District in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Johnson served as his saxophone instructor throughout his high school career.
