Andrew Lewis and Glenvar middle schools played head-to-head in four sports Monday, with Lewis coming out on top in three.

Glenvar’s win came in a boys’ soccer game at Lewis, as the Highlanders took a 3-1 decision. That kept the Spartans from completing an undefeated season in their last game of the spring.

In girls’ soccer the Wolverines edged Glenvar, 1-0. Zada Craig scored the only goal of the game and Riley Brammer played a strong game at midfield for Lewis. After a tough start the girls won their last two games and were unscored upon in their last three.

In softball, Lewis took a 13-7 win in Salem as Lily Lawson had two doubles and five runs batted in. Kennedy Scales circled the bases on a bunt and Yazmyah Ashwell had a double.

In baseball, Lewis beat visiting Glenvar at Kiwanis Field, 11-0. Trent Judd picked up the win, pitching a two-hitter. Chase Greer rapped three hits on the day, including a triple, and Hunter Bayne contributed two base hits as Lewis finished 7-4 on the season.

“I’m very proud of this team,” said coach Greg Gallion. “I think over the last few weeks we’ve found our identity, and we know that teams don’t want to overlook us right now.  These young men, especially our ‘seniors,’ have become quite a solid ball club.  Next year we’re going to miss these guys, but they are ready to impact the JV program.”

Lewis will have a “Relay for Life” benefit softball game on Mays 16th when the girls’ softball team plays the boys’ baseball team.
