The Glenvar High baseball team will host Chatham today at Larry Wood Field in the opening round of the Region 2C baseball tournament. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 pm at Glenvar.
The Highlanders come into the tournament at 15-5-1 after ending the regular season with a 6-4 win over Patrick County at Wood Field last week. That included two lightning delays before the game ended with darkness falling.
Cale Vaughan started on the mound and got the win for Glenvar. Cale pitched five innings before the first rain delay, allowing just one run and striking out eight. He pitched to one batter after the delay but gave way to Gray Hutchison, who closed out the win with two innings of two-hit baseball. Gray also had two hits and two RBIs, Easton Quesenberry had two hits and two RBIs and John Deel drove in a run.
Glenvar was the outright Three Rivers District champion this year and coach Jeremy Cromer was named Coach of the Year. The Highlanders dominated the All-Three Rivers first team with Vaughan and Cam Feazell at pitcher, Jake Franklin at first base, Quesenberry at second, Feazell at short and Vaughan in the outfield. Jack Osburn was second team in the outfield and Honorable Mention went to Hutchison at pitcher, Deel at catcher and Camden Summerville in the outfield.
