The Glenvar girls took a 17-1 record to Axton Wednesday for a Region 2C quarterfinal soccer game with Auburn at the Smith River Complex. Results were too late for publication, but the winner will play in the region championship game tonight on the complex pitch.
Tonight’s game is also for a spot in the state championship tournament. The Glenvar-Auburn winner will play the winner of a game between Liberty and Nelson County, which was also in Axton Wednesday. What’s more, both teams in tonight’s final will continue on in the Class 2 state championship tournament with the region champ getting a quarterfinal home game.
Glenvar earned the trip to Axton with a 9-1 thumping of George Wythe in the region opening round game last Friday. It was the first game of a doubleheader with the boys at Highlander Stadium and the girls set the tone for the night.
Freshman Gabby Barba continued her spectacular season with five more goals and an assist. Amber Credille, Chloe Childers, Avery Steger and Ryan Jones had one goal each for Glenvar while Sawyer Wilson had five assists and Annie George assisted on two goals.
