Glenvar’s Jackson Jones hits a corner kick in last week’s win.

The Glenvar High boys’ soccer team keeps rolling along. The three-time defending state champion Highlanders were scheduled to play Liberty High on Wednesday of this week with a spot in this year’s state tournament on the line.

Wednesday’s game was played at the Smith River Complex in Axton and results were too late for press deadlines. Appomattox and Floyd County were in the other bracket and the two Wednesday winners will play tonight for the Region 2C championship, also at the Smith River Complex. Both finalists make the state tournament with the region winner getting a quarterfinal home game.

Glenvar opened Region 2C play last Friday with a convincing 10-0 win over Chatham. The Highlanders scored four goals in the first half to hold a 4-0 lead at the break. Levi King recorded a three goal hat trick while Henry Schruth scored two goals. Other scorers on the night were Parker Doolan, Adam Saunders, Jacob Saunders, Heath Russell and Issac Sevilla as Glenvar won by slaughter rule.

Zach Williams led Glenvar in assists with three. Tyler Curfiss had two and with one each were James Housh, Doolan, Schruth, Jackson Jones and Adam Saunders. Glenvar outshot Chatham, 38-0.

“I really thought we did a good job of coming out in the second half and finishing the game off,” said coach Josh Jones. “Now it is on to the next round where we will need to play our best to be successful.”

With the win Glenvar improved to 17-0-1 on the season.
