The Roanoke College baseball team will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament play this weekend at Shenandoah University in Winchester. The Maroons are the fiff seed and Shenandoah is fourth, and they’ll play a best-of-three from Friday to Sunday to see who advances to the semifinals on May 8.

The University of Lynchburg wrapped up the regular season championship and top-seed in a stacked field of talent. The Hornets (18-4) are one of four squads to earn hosting privileges in four best-of-three series that make-up the opening weekend of action. Joining Lynchburg as opening weekend hosts include second-seeded Randolph-Macon College (15-7), third-seeded Bridgewater College (14- 7-1), and fourth-seeded Shenandoah University (14-8).

The best-of-three series are intended to be played over two days, but alterations to that schedule may be necessary due to graduation ceremonies, weather predictions or other unforeseen situations. In addition to the Roanoke- Shenandoah series Averett is at Bridgewater, Hampden-Sydney goest to Randolph-Macon and Ferrum plays at Lynchburg.

If there are any seeded upsets on opening weekend the squads will be reseeded as appropriate prior to championship series weekend at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. This is the second season that ODAC baseball has called the new all-turf venue home. Double-elimination play is slated for Thursday through Saturday, May 8-10.

The Maroons finished the regular season dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach last weekend, losing 14-3 and 12-2. That put them at 19-19-1 for the season and 11-10-1 in ODAC play.
