The James I. Moyer Complex in Salem was the site of an Alumni Weekend doubleheader last Saturday and the Roanoke College women used the occasion to sweep visiting Sweet Briar. The Maroons 5-3 and 10-0 after honoring their seniors.
After RC went ahead 1-0 in the first game the Vixens took the lead with two in the top of the second. Ava Colontrelle tied the game in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly and Roanoke took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the fourth, the second scoring on a Heather McQueeney single. Erin Gorschboth provided an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI single. Mackenzie Samuel earned the win, tossing four innings and Grace Clary picked up the save.
In game two Baylee Compton earned the complete-game shutout victory in the circle, allowing just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Colontrelle was 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI while Riley Shupe and Carsyn Michaels each went 2-2 with a stolen base.
With the sweep the Maroons evened their record at 6-6 in the ODAC and 14-14 overall. They were scheduled to travel to Lynchburg to take on Randolph College for a doubleheader on Wednesday, and this Saturday they’ll play two at Bridgewater College.
