The Roanoke College field hockey team had their shutout streak snapped but kept their winning streak intact with a 2-1 win over Eastern Mennonite Monday at Salem’s Kerr Stadium. The Maroons have now won seven games in a row.
Roanoke had a six game streak of shutout wins coming into Monday’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference game with the Royals. The first half was scoreless before Grace Vernarelli of RC gave the Maroons a 1-0 lead. EMU score at the 40:10 mark to end the long shutout streak, but Josephine van Leyen of Roanoke answered about five minutes later with a goal off a rebound, and that was the game winner.
With the win the Maroons are now 7-2 overall and that was their ODAC debut. The Maroons were scheduled to host Ferrum on Wednesday and this Saturday they’re at Virginia Wesleyan at noon.
