Maddie McDonald broke the Roanoke College record for goals in a season.

The Roanoke College women saw their lacrosse season come to an end with an overtime loss to Randolph-Macon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference semifinal round last Friday. The host YellowJackets prevailed 13-12 in Ashland.

The game was back and forth in the first quarter, with R-MC coming out with the slight advantage at 4-3. The Maroons responded well in the second quarter, scoring the first three goals of the quarter to take a 6-5 lead into the half. After the Yellow Jackets evened it early in the third, Maddie McDonald tallied a hat trick to extend RC’s lead to three goals and it was a high scoring fourth with Randolph-Macon scoring six to rally back and force overtime. R-MC then scored with less than two minutes to go in overtime to win the game.

With her team leading eight goals in the game McDonald hit 89 goals for the season, making her the official program leader in single season goals. She also tied her career high for single game goals. Ryan Tinervin also had a multi-point game, tallying a goal and an assist, while Zoe Blair, Sarah Brisson, and Emmie Verville rounded out RC’s goal scorers. Kendall Todd made 10 saves between the pipes in the contest.

Roanoke finished with a 10-9 overall record with the loss. Randolph-Macon advanced to the ODAC championship game where they lost to top-seeded Washington & Lee, 8-6, in Lexington Sunday.
