The Salem High tennis teams are scheduled to take on Patrick Henry in River Ridge District action Friday. Weather permitting, the boys are home and the girls go to PH.
This week has been a wash so far for the netters. The boys had a home match with Hidden Valley postponed on Monday and that’s scheduled to be made up on May 19. The girls were scheduled to go to Christiansburg Tuesday but that was moved to today, May 15.
Last Friday the boys defeated Hidden Valley, 7-2. Spartan number one Drew Perez faced a powerful serving opponent but his own was never broken as Drew won 6-2, 6-2.
“Playing with deft use of spin and arc, he displayed impressive court command,” said Salem coach Steve Lily.
Chance Long, Alan Burr, and Dev Patel were effective from the baseline, winning in positions three through five. With four points in hand the Spartans swept the doubles with the teams of Perez and Logan Butcher, Long and Burr and Dev Patel and Evan Graybill.
The Salem girls beat Hidden Valley 8-1 at Salem High Friday. Singles winners were Claire Rawlins, Caroline Loveday, Josephine Eaton, Elisa Nguyen and Christine Burr and Salem swept the doubles.
