The Glenvar and Salem track teams will be competing at William Byrd this Saturday in a multi-school meet. Action is scheduled to begin at 9 am.
The Glenvar track team opened the spring season with a trip to Blacksburg for the Blacksburg Invitational last Saturday
“We had a great meet and saw quite a few PR’s from the team,” said Glenvar coach Neil Swanson.
Joey Loder broke the school record in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.87 and that makes him ranked seventh in the state with that time. Colby Thompson took first in the 400 and was second in the 100. Tyson Hobbs was second in the triple jump and third in both the high and long jumps. The boys 4×100 relay consisting of Ranger Swanson, Tyson Hobbs, Tre Dawyot and Colby Thompson took second and broke the school record. Tyler Davis state qualified in the 3200 with a time of 10:11 and was seventh overall.
“We would have liked for more girls to compete for us, but it was the same day as prom so a bunch didn’t go,” said Swanson.
The Highlanders were scheduled to run at Lord Botetourt Wednesday and Salem opened the season at Patrick Henry Wednesday, but results were too late for publication.
