The Salem tennis teams played Cave Spring with mixed results last Friday. The boys had their three game win streak halted with a 9-0 loss in Salem while the girls won 9-0 at Cave Spring.

“Most of the games were tight and competitive,” said Salem boys coach Steve Lily. “The Knights, however, boast an experienced and deep roster, which provided an advantage on key points.”

The girls allowed Cave Spring just six total points in sweeping the singles, then won all three doubles by a combined 24-6 for a match total score of 72-12. Claire Rawlins, Caroline Loveday and Elisa Nguyen all won 8-0 in singles and Rawlins and Loveday combined to win 8-0 at first doubles.

The Spartans were scheduled to play Blacksburg teams on Thursday, and Friday they take on Hidden Valley with the girls at home and the boys at Hidden Valley. Salem number one Drew Perez is returning this week after playing some out of town tournaments.
