Salem’s Reagan Owens pitched a gem on Tuesday but all she got to show for it was an “L”. Owens struck out six and allowed just one run, but that was all Hidden Valley needed for a 1-0 win over the Spartans at the Moyer Complex.

Julia Nelson was equally strong on the mound for  Hidden Valley, fanning 14. However, she walked eight and Salem had several chances to score but couldn’t come up with the big hit when needed. Salem had just two hits, one each by Liz Warren and Maggie King.

The game was scoreless through five. Nelson contributed to her own cause with a double in the sixth as the Titans scored the only run of the game.

With the loss Salem dropped to 2-5 overall. The Spartans are at undefeated William Byrd today for a 6 pm game in Vinton. On Friday Blacksburg is here.
