The Glenvar soccer teams will play a girls-boys varsity doubleheader tonight at Highlander Stadium. The girls will play Northside at 5 pm with the boys to follow against Floyd County.
Both teams had big wins over Radford on Monday night. The Glenvar boys soccer team stayed unbeaten and unscored upon with a 4-0 win over the Bobcats in Radford and the girls took a 3-1 win at home.
For the boys, Luke Farmer took a Wesley Felicanio cross nine minutes into the game to score the first goal, then Adam Saunders would find the back of the net after chasing down a Grayson Shepherd punt and net the second goal three minutes later.
Glenvar’s third goal came when Aidan Hylton headed in a Felicanio serve in the box with 14 minutes left in the half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Feliciano added another goal in the second half to claim the victory. Grayson Shepherd and Tyler Shannon combined for the shutout in the net as Glenvar outshot Radford, 32-4.
“It was a really good road win for us,” said Glenvar coach Josh Jones. “Playing at Radford always presents some challenges for us and we dealt with those fairly well. Hopefully we can continue to work hard, remain focused and improve as we move through the year.”
The Highlanders are now 6-0-0 on the season and were scheduled to play at Auburn on Wednesday.
The Glenvar girls soccer team improved to 5-2 on the season when the Highlanders beat Three Rivers District rival Radford at GHS Monday. Cam Stevens, Davin Tate and Sawyer Wilson scored goals for the Highlanders and Annie George had an assist. That followed an 8-0 win over Giles last week as Stevens had a three goal hat trick.
